Q7. Looking
back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
Ans. The preliminary task was an activity that we
did in the beginning of the year and this was the first time I shot a film and
edited it. The end product had a lot of problems in it, there is too much light that is blocking the actors face and not
giving a clear understanding of the representation. Another problem that i
faced was with the voice, as this makes me realize that from next time I will
have to use a mic. Now that I look at the prelim I can critically analyze it
and have noticed that I didn’t take care of the 180 degree rule and there are a
lot of jump cuts. It was a first time experience with everything shooting,
editing, lighting and sound. It was a lot of fun shooting the prelim even
though it was a short lasting experience at that time, after this we were
introduced to the adobe premiere software. The editing had many lose hooks and
there were obvious jump cuts. Dialogues could not be heard clearly which
disconnected the audience from what was happening in the video.
Now when I compare the prelim video to my final product there is a
massive difference. There is a proper technique followed and entire paper work
is done before going for shoot. Story boards are made, scene division and shot
division have helped during the shoot as on location you panic and forget
scenes that are needed to be shot. I recorded the room tone so the voices
during the shoot can be covered, my source of light was sun so no artificial
lighting was used. I didn’t have to work on my mise en scene the location I
chose had all the look that I needed for my film.
