Media Studies (OCR): Preliminary Video

Media Studies (OCR): Preliminary Video

This is our preliminary video in which we have shown two guys talking to each other. The shots have been taken from different angles and one of the pan shot is taken by sitting on the vacuum cleaner and moving it around. The problem with my video is that it has alot of light that is blocking the actors face and not giving a clear understanding of the representation. Another problem that i faced was with the voice, as this makes me realize that from next time i will have to use a mic.
Shooting this video was hard and fun at the same time as the actors were not so familiar with where to look when the camera was on but i think we pulled it of!
Editing was the major part of this video as each shot had to be placed accordingly and smoothly. One thing i would have to work on is the noise in the background as it gets distracting for the viewer.

Media Studies (OCR): Preliminary Video (Raw Footage)

Media Studies (OCR): Preliminary Video (Raw Footage):

Our first preliminary video shoot is complete today. The editing is still left but these are the raw footage's.
The video is set in a house where two teenage boys are having a conversation. This is the first official video that i have made and i am way too excited to start working on its editing, although it wont be perfect but some shots are great and some have been spoiled by the light that is distracting and hiding the actors face.

Key Media Concepts and Textual Analysis

Today we learned the "key media concepts" that are;
  • Media language
  • Audience
  • Representation
  • Institution
  • Ideology
The ideology of a media text relates to values and attitudes use within the text and relate to the audience. These might be explicit or implicit but under printing all aspects of construction.

Textual Analysis
A video is shown in which we have to analyze different things such as;
  1.  Camera angles, shot, movement and position: establishing shot, master shot, high angle and low angle, zoom and reverse zoom.
  2.   Sound and vision editing: Soundtrack, Theme, Sound effects
  3. Special effects
  4. Mise-en-Scene

           The extract will be screened 4 times

    ·        In the First screening: we will watch the extract, no notes will be made this time
    ·        In the Second screening: we will watch the extract and make notes

First Media Class

Today was our first media class in which we talked about what we will be doing in media this year. We discussed the rules that you keep in mind while shooting the video, that are as follows =>
  • 180 degree rule: in this there is a imaginary line formed when you place your camera and moving away from the 180 degree line means crossing the line.
  • match on action: two actions joined after editing to show different angles., shot from two angles looking at each other.
  • shot / reverse shot: two characters having a conversation and are sitting opposite each other, the shot is taken from two angles showing them looking at each other.
We were shown the tripod which is a helping tool while shooting as manually our hand shakes alot. We were even shown the school camera and we even shot a friend of mine with it in which he is a conversation, keeping all rules in mind.
