MEDIA CODES AND CONVENTIONS

The media codes and conventions:
- Camera techniques: camera angles and shots
- Representation: the symbols, clothing and environment
- Written and audio
- Frames and lighting
For example: In a documentary the camera is hand held with poor lighting usually dark and slightly out of focus.  The editing may lead to disjointal sections or unclear sections, this shows the filmmaker has not edited the reality. There is use of voice overs which makes it clear its not a drama. The music supports the visuals and framing is used to create meaning and establish who the audience should empathize on.
